Job Title: Radiological Protection Technicians
Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset
Work Pattern / Shifts:
- 10 hours per day
- Shifts:
- 10 AM
- 11 AM
- 4 PM
- 5 PM start
- Onsite parking available.*
Pay: PAYE £310 or Umbrella £434

Join a vital team safeguarding energy infrastructure through expert radiological oversight! As a Radiological Protection Technician, you'll play a key role in supporting the safe management and use of ionising radiation during critical construction phases at the Hinkley Point C site. Your expertise will help ensure compliance, protect workers, and uphold the highest safety standards in a dynamic, challenging environment.
What You'll Do:
- Support and supervise radiography activities, ensuring barriers and equipment are correctly established and monitored.
- Manage storage, issuance, and inventory of radioactive sources, maintaining strict record-keeping and compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform routine radiation and contamination surveys, and respond to incident situations with skilled oversight.
- Liaise with contractors and internal teams to ensure radiography tasks are executed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Support the preparation and execution of radiography work, often during evenings, nights, and weekends, to align with operational demands.

Required Skills:
- GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C or equivalent)
- City and Guilds in Radiation Protection Grade I or similar qualification
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Radiation Protection Technician or health physics monitor
- Strong knowledge of IRR2017 (Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017)
- Competent with IT systems and record-keeping requirements
- Ability to operate effectively within safety protocols and manage radiation sources responsibly
Nice to Have Skills:
- Level 2 Qualification in Radiological Protection or Health Physics Monitoring
- Experience performing radiation monitoring during radiography
- Prior work on a nuclear licensed site
- Experience managing inventories of radioactive sources and related equipment
- Shift work experience, including night and weekend shifts

Preferred Education and Experience:
- Relevant technical qualifications such as City and Guilds Level 2 or NVQ Level 2 in radiological protection
- Proven track record in a high-pressure safety-critical environment, preferably within nuclear or industrial radiography sectors
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends
- Proven communication skills for liaising effectively with contractors and internal teams
- Commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards and environmental responsibility
- Willingness to work in a construction site environment with associated hazards
