Role Description

This is a multisite based apprenticeship position situated at different stations throughout Kent for a Rail Engineering Operative Apprentice. The apprentice will assist in maintaining rail infrastructure, ensuring safety and operational efficiency. Responsibilities may include inspecting track systems, identifying and reporting issues, performing essential maintenance tasks, and adhering to health and safety regulations. The role offers hands-on learning opportunities within a dynamic and fast-paced industry, with guidance and support from experienced rail engineers.

Qualifications and Candidate Requirements

  • A keen interest in the rail industry and the willingness to learn and develop skills in rail engineering.
  • Basic mechanical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with tools and equipment.
  • Teamwork, communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • An understanding of health and safety practices, with the ability to apply them in workplace scenarios.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in diverse weather conditions and demanding environments.
  • Minimum GCSE grade 4 and above (or equivalent) in English and Math.
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for contributing to the safe and efficient delivery of rail services.

Application Process

  • We shall directly contact you to complete our expression of interest application form which must be completed and returned.
  • If your application advances, we will conduct a telephone interview in April to understand your motivations for applying to our apprenticeship programme.
  • If successful, we will arrange for you to come to our training school venue to undertake an assessment day.
  • After internal discussions with the recruitment panel, if successful then you will be offered the Rail Engineering Operative apprenticeship to start in November.
