Bressingham Steam Museum
Permanent, full-time — 40 hours per week, including some weekend working
Help care for the railway infrastructure and site that make Bressingham Steam Museum a special place to visit. We are looking for a practical, organised Railway Infrastructure and Site Supervisor to coordinate and carry out track maintenance, repairs and wider site improvements. This is a hands-on role combining railway skills with responsibility for planning work and supporting volunteers and contractors.
The role
Working with the General Manager and Operations Manager, you will:
- Inspect, maintain and repair track, points, sleepers, ballast and associated drainage.
- Plan maintenance and help deliver railway renewal and improvement projects.
- Carry out wider site maintenance, including paths, fences, gates and visitor areas.
- Coordinate volunteers and contractors on allocated tasks.
- Maintain inspection records, organise materials and help monitor maintenance spending.
- Support safe railway operations, seasonal opening and museum events.

About you
You will bring practical experience of permanent way maintenance, gained through paid work or volunteering, and a thorough approach to safe working. You should be comfortable organising tasks, identifying problems and working alongside people with different skills and experience. Reliability, clear communication and pride in your workmanship are essential. Experience of heritage railways, general site maintenance or supervising practical projects would be an advantage. You should also have five GCSEs at grades A–C, or equivalent, including English and Mathematics. The role involves outdoor work in varied weather conditions, walking over uneven ground and handling tools and materials, with appropriate equipment and working arrangements.
