Head of Sales

Rainbox · water technology · remote (occasional London/Bristol) · part-time growing to full-time

We've built something exceptional. Now we need someone to put a rocket under it.

About Rainbox

Rainbox is a UK water-tech company, with product and system development in Bristol. We've built a modular, solar-powered water purification system — one uniform system, engineered for markets that have never shared a single solution before, from a humanitarian relief operation to an off-grid community, a sustainable factory floor or a data centre.

It runs on highly energy-efficient evaporation — solar- and waste-heat-driven, with effectively zero consumables — and is modelled to outperform conventional approaches by a wide margin. Our first field trials are proposed with Oxfam, with off-grid developments internationally to follow, and traction already in place.

Behind it: a team with four PhDs and engineers from the likes of Dyson. Award-winning, and — until now — operating largely in stealth. That's soon to change.

Rainbox was born out of a focus on humanitarian aid. But we're aware of the far wider range of markets this can serve — and of the genuine, massive gap in the market that no viable solution fills today. This role is about walking through it, and shutting the door behind us before anyone else gets there.

Our mission

We're on a mission to democratise access to water — putting the tools for resilience directly into people's hands, while cutting the extraction, landfill and energy burdens the water industry creates today.

And this is a rare moment to be doing it. As water becomes scarcer and harder to treat, the conventional answers are reaching their limits — and the need for something genuinely different keeps growing. That's exactly the space we've built for.

That's the scale of the gap we're building into — a space with no viable solution today, growing to as much as 40% of the world's water by 2050, where no one can touch what we're doing.

What we're ultimately building is water independence — the way solar panels created energy independence. We're right at the start of that curve, and it's a rare, critical moment to be part of it.

Impact and sales are uniquely linked here. We're mapping the world's water challenges — where the need is greatest, and where we can have the greatest impact — alongside the opportunities that come with them, a clear read on our competitors, and exactly where we cross the line that makes us the obvious choice for the customer.

The role

This is our first commercial hire — the person who turns a category-defining technology into a business. You'll own and shape our route to market, drive the engine that converts interest into contracts, and build the commercial function from the ground up.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll strategise the path to market. You'll work with our Head of Science to understand the physics and our Head of Product to understand the technology, and closely with the founder to keep our voice sharp, honest and true. You'll build on the partnerships the founder and our Head of Fundraising & Partnerships are already developing — turning relationships into pilots, orders and contracts. And you'll build and oversee a small commercial team over time, with support from a Head of Operations.

Within a world-class set of advisors, there's real expertise to lean on, including:

  • two former global heads of WASH
  • the former number-one seller of WASH products in the UK
  • a brand, audience and placement specialist who works with brands such as Uber, Spotify and Nike and Audi
  • the leading installer of solar-powered water projects across Southern Asia and Africa
  • a top market analyst, formerly of Dyson

The ambition is simple and large: to move quietly and quickly, and to lead these categories before the market realises they've been redrawn.

What you'll do

  • Own and shape the route to market — and decide where we push first, hardest and next.
  • Convert conversations into contracts, including the partnerships handed to you by the founder and by Fundraising & Partnerships.
  • Work with the Head of Product and Head of Science to understand the product and the physics, and turn it into a compelling, buyer-specific case.
  • Keep our voice right, working closely with the founder.
  • Build the commercial systems — pipeline, CRM, and the sales methods (including new, AI-enabled tooling) that let a small team punch far above its weight.
  • Shape the consumer and off-grid opportunity (individual farmers, off-grid homes) that we've deliberately left open to strategise.

The markets

One uniform system, a rare spread of markets — primarily business-to-business:

  • Humanitarian & off-grid — our beachhead: first trials with Oxfam, off-grid developments internationally to follow.
  • Utilities, architects & developers — public water supply and the built environment.
  • Agriculture — the largest water user on earth, and more price-sensitive, across water-stressed regions worldwide, close behind the humanitarian work.
  • Industrial & process — distilled-water applications: medical, semiconductor and chip manufacture, food & beverage.
  • Data centres & AI — where we're uniquely placed to run on the very waste heat they produce.
  • Defence — military and expeditionary deployment, where we're uniquely placed to fill a critical gap.

No single career covers all of this — and that's part of what makes it exciting.

About you

You've got something that works — years of hard-won expertise, a playbook you know works, or simply an eye for what other people miss. We're looking for conviction and performance.

You're an excellent communicator — clear, calm and confident. When problems arise, you go straight at them. You're accountable and respectful. You're future-looking, always watching the sales systems and methods coming online. You can do a great deal yourself, and you know when to hand things on. You convert conversations into contracts — and when you don't understand something, you say so, and go and learn it.

Experience across some of these sectors is a real advantage, but not an absolute must. If you can show us a credible way to cover the ground without it, we'll listen.

You might be looking for a career change, returning to work, or chasing one of your first real breaks. Whatever brings you here, the outcome of your success will be the same: lives transformed, and impact at real scale. That might not be your primary driver — but it will be the result. Maybe impact is what moves you; maybe it's the numbers. We'll work with you either way.

We're building a team that reflects the world we're trying to serve. If you've ever been told you don't quite fit the mould, that won't be a problem here — we care about what you can do, and who you are.

The practical stuff

  • Shape: Part-time to start — around two days a week — growing towards full-time over roughly a year. It's about output, not hours: if you can deliver in less, great; if you'd rather build a team and stay part-time yourself, we're open to that.
  • Location: 99% remote, with occasional access to London or Bristol. Really, this is about finding an outstanding person — they can be anywhere on the planet, and international applicants are welcome.
  • Start: No fixed date — we're optimising for the right person. Ideally early November 2026: we'll be prototyping and testing from October to February, and want partnerships and sales traction building through that window.
  • Package: Competitive, with a definite performance bonus and the possibility of equity. We'll shape it with the right person.
  • Ways of working: Outcomes-focused, self-managed, collaborative.

How to apply

Send us your CV, along with a short note on who you are, why this excites you, and anything that shows how you sell — a track record, a portfolio, whatever tells your story best.

We have an extraordinary product and a rare, wide-open gap in front of us. If you want to help us walk through it — and take these markets before anyone sees us coming — we'd love to hear from you.
