Iraq joined Group 9 for the 2026 World Cup, which also includes France, Norway, and Senegal.
The Iraqi prime minister’s office said on social media that al-Sudani hosted a luncheon for the Lions of Mesopotamia, celebrating their World Cup qualification.
After speaking with Iraqi players, the prime minister said, "We want to prove, through our World Cup participation, that our qualification was earned."
He added, "Iraq’s group is tough, with France and Norway featuring Haaland and Senegal, but we trust the Lions of Mesopotamia to win."
