Rates Analysis Analyst

The Rates Analysis Analyst will be responsible for the analysis, interpretation, implementation, and maintenance of client-specific pricing arrangements and billing rates within the Firm's systems, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with negotiated client agreements. The role holder will work closely with stakeholders across Finance, Billing, Pricing, and other business support teams to ensure agreed rates and fee arrangements are accurately maintained and applied, supporting the delivery of accurate and compliant client billing outcomes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Review and calculate Timekeeper rates for eBilling and non-eBilling clients based on negotiated client agreements and pricing arrangements.
  • Analyze client agreements, rate schedules, discounts, and fee arrangements to ensure accurate interpretation and implementation of pricing terms.
  • Configure, maintain, and validate client, matter, and timekeeper rates within SAP and other Firm systems.
  • Perform rate verification and approval activities during matter onboarding and rate review processes to ensure billing compliance and pricing integrity.
  • Manage client rate onboarding activities, including contract review, pricing analysis, system setup, and stakeholder validation.
  • Maintain client fee arrangements, pricing profiles, and matter-specific billing requirements to support accurate invoice generation.
  • Monitor, track, and apply volume discounts, special pricing arrangements, and client-specific exceptions in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Conduct regular reviews of pricing data and system configurations to identify discrepancies, data quality issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Resolve rate-related inquiries, billing rejections, and pricing discrepancies through timely investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Billing, eBilling, Pricing Strategy, Finance, and Client Service teams to ensure seamless execution of pricing and billing processes.
  • Ensure client pricing information and supporting documentation are accurately maintained within central repositories and tracking tools.
  • Support annual rate review and rate increase processes, including calculation, validation, implementation, and approval tracking.
  • Adhere to established controls, policies, procedures, and governance standards to mitigate revenue leakage and ensure contractual compliance.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, recommend operational efficiencies, and contribute to the development of best practices within the Rates function.
  • Exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and diplomacy when handling sensitive client, pricing, and stakeholder matters.
  • Participate in cross-training, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team capability and service delivery.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in business administration, commerce, finance, liberal arts, or related courses
  • Prior experience in a billing or pricing role is an advantage
  • General understanding of accounting or finance principles as well as the specific law firm or professional service accounting structure, environment, and requirements
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written)
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Knowledge and experience of financial systems (SAP preferred but not required)
  • Have the confidence to escalate and ask questions, especially when being asked to deviate from standard processes
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Ability to perform at high levels in a fast-paced ever-changing work environment and successfully adapt to changing priorities and work demands, including learning new skills when required
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Keen attention to detail and effective organizational skills
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction, follow up on own initiative
  • Flexibility to work a reasonable shifting schedule is required
