Rapiscan Systems is an industry leader in detection technology, providing cargo and vehicle inspection systems and services for ports, borders, military, high-threat facilities, and checkpoints to help customers combat terrorism, drug smuggling, illegal immigration, and trade fraud. We offer a broad array of scanning system configurations that leverage low-, medium-, and high-energy X-ray technology—or multiple X-ray technologies—to address each customer’s unique security application requirements.
We are seeking a hands-on R&D Electromechanical Technician to join our Cargo Research Team and support the development, testing, verification, and validation of next-generation security screening technologies.
What You Will Do
Working closely with engineers and research teams, you will assemble, test, troubleshoot, maintain and improve complex electromechanical systems and prototypes within our X-ray Imaging Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, install and test electromechanical systems and components.
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on machinery and automated equipment.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults using schematics and diagnostic tools.
- Program, troubleshoot and modify PLC control systems.
- Support HMI and SCADA integration activities.
- Perform I/O checks, loop testing, and commissioning activities.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on continuous improvements.
- Support FATs, customer demonstrations, and wider engineering activities.
Essential Requirements
- Unfortunately, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
- NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship, or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience in electromechanical assembly, maintenance, testing, or repair.
- Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of electrical circuits, mechanical systems, and control technologies.

Desirable
- Experience with SCADA systems and industrial networking.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.
- Knowledge of robotics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 or lean manufacturing environments.
