Position Overview
We are seeking a Research & Development (R&D) Engineer to support the Fuel Systems Division (FSD) Bristol R&D team in the development of new fuel gauging and sensing technologies. This role will focus on systems engineering activities for novel fuel gauging systems, contributing to the definition, verification, and safety assessment of emerging technologies.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to develop technical expertise within an innovative engineering environment and support the delivery of advanced aerospace sensing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support systems engineering activities for new fuel gauging and sensing technologies
- Develop and maintain requirements databases for novel fuel gauging systems and technologies
- Create, update, and maintain test plans and test procedures
- Support verification and validation activities in line with project requirements
- Conduct system analyses, including Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Preliminary System Safety Assessment (PSSA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to support product development and technology maturation
- Prepare technical documentation and contribute to design reviews, test reviews, and project meetings

Essential skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for this position
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant technical or scientific subject
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical design information
- Knowledge and understanding of validation and verification
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and conduct investigations
- Proficiency in technical report writing and presentations
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Understanding and experience of Cryogenics
- Previous experience with sensor design and sensor networks
- Previous experience with aircraft fuel systems
- Knowledge of specific Aerospace standards, ARP4754, ARP4761 and ARINC611
