R&D Engineer - Power Systems Simulation
Place of work: Edinburgh or surroundings, (partly remote position could be considered for strong candidates)

- Propose and execute power systems engineering and R&D projects.
- Support technical, business development and sales teams with specialized expertise on power system real-time simulation.
- Mentor technical team to raise skill levels in power system real-time simulation.
- Provide feedback on and support pre-release testing and validation of OPAL-RT’s power systems simulation tools.
- Write and present technical papers on power systems simulation
Requirements
Education: Ph. D. degree in electrical engineering (or relevant field), master’s degree holders with 5+ years of academic/industrial research experience in power systems simulation.
Experience: At least 5 years of hands-on real-time simulation of power systems simulation
Required knowledge: Strong understanding of power system simulation, including applications, modeling and numerical methods. Strong experience with power systems simulation tools such as OPAL-RT’s eHS, PLECS and SPS or OPAL-RT’s HYPERSIM, RT-LAB and PSCAD. Strong experience with MATLAB, Simulink and relevant toolboxes for power systems simulation. Understanding of concepts of FPGA implementation of numerical methods and algorithms for power system simulation.
Language skills: Strong oral and written communication skills in English. French and/or German are a plus.
Required skills: Ability to inspire confidence and gain buy-in through expertise and clear technical reasoning. Strong problem solving, design, analytical skills and out-of-the-box thinking, coming up with creative solutions on testing approaches in critical timelines. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Proficient at writing process documentation. Highly autonomous and proactive in identifying improvements
