About the Role
Enso Recruitment are delighted to be working with a highly regarded professional services organisation who are continuing to grow their specialist tax team and are now looking to bring an experienced R&D Tax Financial Analyst on board.
The Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity for a detail-driven finance professional who wants to develop genuine specialist expertise in a niche and growing area of tax.
Working closely with a team of experienced R&D Managers, you'll take ownership of the financial preparation of R&D tax relief claims across a diverse portfolio of clients. From collating and analysing data through to reconciliation and presenting qualifying expenditure.
It's a role that suits someone who is highly organised, comfortable working with complex financial data, and confident managing multiple deadlines across a busy client portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Collate financial information from clients including payroll reports, general ledger data, invoices, contractor schedules, and project cost records
- Prepare R&D claim cost schedules across relevant expenditure categories including staff costs, subcontractors, software, cloud computing, and consumables
- Reconcile claim figures to client accounting records including management accounts, payroll records, and Corporation Tax schedules
- Support apportionment calculations where costs relate to both qualifying and non-qualifying R&D activities
- Document assumptions, methodologies, and evidence used to support financial values included in each claim
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or unsupported costs in client data, raising queries with R&D Managers or client finance teams as appropriate
- Maintain clear working papers and evidence packs to support internal review and potential HMRC enquiry responses
- Work across multiple client files simultaneously, ensuring claim costings are accurate and delivered within agreed deadlines

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
