R&D Technician
Permanent
Are you looking for a permanent position as a Research & Development Technician? Is Preston an area that you can easily commute to work? Would a salary of circa £40000 be OK for you? Do you have experience & qualifications in Fabrication & welding? Can you demonstrate a work history of tool manufacture and fabrication roles? If you have answered "yes" to all the above questions then please read on and apply if interested. Suitable candidates will be called and given additional information on the role and the company.
I am looking to recruit a R&D Technician, their main roles will be as follows:
- Input to Design Reviews
- Tool Manufacture & Development
- Design for Manufacturability (DfM) Reviews
- New Tool Modifications
- Tool Specifications
- New Tool Verification & Snagging
- Perform R&D Moulding Trials (verify operational parameters)
- Product Verification & Testing
- Pilot Production Run Support
- New Jigs and Formers
- Coordination with Other Departments
- Advanced Maintenance
- Training & Knowledge Transfer
- Health, Safety & Compliance
The R&D Technician is the problem solver and hands on technical expert who ensures new product concepts are efficiently and reliably converted into prototype and tooling. You will drive the end to end delivery of bespoke tools - manufacturing, modifying and snagging new moulds and formers, while feeding critical design for manufacturability insights back into design reviews to simplify production handover. By leading R&D moulding trials, executing thorough verification and testing, and advising on advanced maintenance, you become the backbone of development. Your expertise not only keeps projects on schedule but also guides R&D toward smarter, more tool friendly designs. Through hands on fabrication, cross functional collaboration and a rigorous problem solving mindset, you'll safeguard an agile, efficient development pipeline that underpins the company's innovation goals.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
