R&D Technician | Cambourne | Inside IR35 Contract

Our client is an innovative technology business developing advanced connected products for the agricultural technology sector. With a focus on product innovation, connectivity and smart hardware, the organisation is investing in the next generation of technology designed to deliver practical benefits to customers.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on technician to work across electronics, mechanical assembly, prototyping and product testing, helping turn new designs into fully tested, functional products.

The Role

As an R&D Test & Development Technician, you will play a key role in supporting laboratory, workshop and testing activities throughout the product development lifecycle.

This is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys troubleshooting, building and testing hardware, and working across multiple engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and modify electronic and electromechanical prototypes, including PCBs, sensors, wiring and mechanical components.
  • Carry out soldering of wires and surface-mount components where required.
  • Support programming, calibration, configuration and functional testing of prototype hardware.
  • Design, build and maintain test setups for functional testing and system integration.
  • Develop and improve test rigs to support product development and verification activities.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the R&D laboratory, workshop and stores.
  • Maintain, calibrate and arrange servicing or inspection of laboratory and workshop equipment.

Requirements

Essential experience and skills

  • Relevant experience as a test technician, development technician or similar hands-on engineering role involving electromechanical products.
  • Strong practical experience working with hardware systems, electronic instrumentation, debugging and system-level integration.
  • Experience assembling, testing or troubleshooting electronic and mechanical components.
  • A structured and organised approach to working in a laboratory, workshop or engineering environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on mindset.

Qualifications

  • An engineering or technician diploma, or equivalent practical experience and technical training.
  • A degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.
