Reactor and Systems Performance Consultant

Role: Reactor and Systems Performance Consultant

Salary range: £50,000–£65,000 per annum depending on experience

Location: Manchester, Burton, Bristol, Gloucester or Glasgow

Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

At Frazer-Nash, our reactor and systems performance specialists sit at the heart of our work in nuclear safety, design, and assurance across a range of clients, technologies and technical disciplines. We are seeking people with experience of reactor and systems performance modelling to help shape critical decisions, support safety cases, and strengthen the next generation of nuclear capability. Whether your expertise lies with reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, fuel performance or any related nuclear discipline, you will find a place with us as we expand our teams in support of clients from across the industry.

We are looking for people with experience in any of the following disciplines:

  • Reactor physics
  • Thermal hydraulics
  • Fuel performance
  • Fault studies
  • Shielding and radiological protection
  • Or any other reactor or systems performance discipline

Why this Role?

As a Reactor and Systems Performance modeller, you will apply advanced analytical techniques and modelling tools to understand and explain complex behaviours in nuclear systems. You will contribute across the full consultancy lifecycle, from technical analysis and interpretation through to client engagement and business development.

Taking the lead

You will manage technical work packages, engage directly with clients, and support project delivery, while collaborating with supportive colleagues and mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers.

Variety of work

Our consultants typically work on multiple projects at once, ranging from short, focused studies to long-term programme support across the nuclear lifecycle.

Growing capability

You will contribute to winning work, client discussions, and the continued growth of our reactor and systems performance capability across existing and emerging nuclear programmes.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Developing and maintaining models of nuclear plant systems using industry-standard codes,
  • Analysing plant performance under a wide range of operating scenarios to inform design decisions and nuclear safety cases,
  • Providing authoritative interpretation of model results and underlying physical phenomena,
  • Supporting model verification, validation, and best-practice application,
  • Communicating complex technical outputs clearly and concisely to clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.

Technical Experience

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrable experience in the application of your technical discipline within the nuclear industry, supporting plant design and/or operations,
  • A strong understanding of the underlying physics and engineering principals that underpin your technical discipline,
  • A degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience,
  • Ability to interpret, validate, and clearly explain complex modelling outputs.

Personal And Consultancy Skills

  • Ability to independently manage and deliver work to meet client requirements
  • Experience contributing to proposal writing, client liaison, and business development
  • The ability and desire to apply your knowledge and expertise to adjacent disciplines – broadening your portfolio of experience and supporting our clients in a flexible manner.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively through meetings, presentations, written reports, commercial bids, and technical discussions
  • The ability to work as part of a broad team, including supporting colleagues with formal and informal mentoring and training

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertakes, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
