About Tattva

Tattva is a deep-tech start-up working at the intersection of biology and materials manufacturing. We develop biologically grown materials for the construction industry, backed by a UK research grant and partnered with the University of Edinburgh and a Tier-1 construction group.

The Role

You will lead the development of our prototype reactor, the machine at the heart of the company. It is a multidisciplinary system spanning mechanical, electrical, and control engineering, and you will own it.

Over your first year you will take the reactor from concept to a built, instrumented, working prototype: producing the digital design and models, refining it with our scientific and engineering advisors, sourcing components, then assembling, commissioning and iterating the physical system. You will run it, break it, understand why, and improve it. You will work closely with the founder, physics modellers at the University of Edinburgh, and an engineering partner, but you will be the one with hands on the machine.

What We Are Looking For

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We care more about what you have built than where you studied. The strongest candidate has spent years making things work, through a robotics or Formula Student team, a personal workshop, or hardware projects, and is also rigorous about design and modelling.

You should be comfortable across disciplines: mechanical design and fabrication, basic electrical and electronics work, motion systems, sensors, and the logic that ties them together. You will not be expert in all of these on day one. We expect someone who picks things up fast and would rather prototype today than spec perfectly for a month.

You likely have:

  • A masters degree in mechanical, mechatronics, electrical, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated capability. We welcome strong recent graduates and those one to three years into their career.
  • Real fabrication experience: fluent with a workshop, hand and power tools, 3D printing, basic machining, and assembly. You have built physical things that worked.
  • Strong CAD skills and an interest in simulation and modelling.
  • Working knowledge of electronics and control: microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, and enough software to make a system do what you want.
  • A strong DIY engineering instinct: knowing when to source, when to make, and when to redesign.
  • The temperament for early-stage work: self-directed, resourceful on a limited budget, and energised by owning something important.

Useful but not required: experience with bioprocess equipment, fluid systems, pumps and dosing, LED lighting, or motion control.

Why This Is a Good Role to Take

You would own a core piece of technology and see your work move the whole company forward. As Tattva grows, this role is positioned to grow with it, with the opportunity to advance rapidly into a senior engineering position as we scale the team.

Terms

  • On-site at Elston Farm, Crediton, EX17 5PB
  • Starting salary £30,000 per annum, subject to increment with progress
  • Full-time, with a genuine commitment to good work-life balance
