Reception Supervisor - The Bath Priory
Salary: £13.71 / Hour
Location: Weston Rd, Bath BA1 2XT, UK
Description
Ready for your next step in hospitality? Come and join our team as Reception Supervisor and let your passion and personality shine. Imagine working in one of Bath’s most iconic hotels. A beautiful Georgian house, built in honey-coloured Bath stone, surrounded by four acres of award-winning gardens and just a short walk from the heart of the city. The Bath Priory is a 5-star Relais & Châteaux hotel, proudly recognised at 5-star level for more than ten years.
We are part of the Brownsword family of hotels, where every property has its own personality, but where one thing remains the same: we believe in creating genuinely memorable experiences for our guests and a great place to work for our teams.
We are looking for a confident, proactive, and people-focused Reception Supervisor who is ready to take the next step in their hospitality career. Perhaps you are already taking ownership of shifts, supporting your colleagues, and confidently handling the unexpected, and you are ready for a role where you can develop your leadership skills further. You understand that great reception work is about much more than checking guests in and out. It is about anticipating needs, making decisions, supporting your team, and ensuring every guest feels genuinely welcome. If you enjoy taking responsibility, leading by example, and bringing out the best in others, this could be the perfect next chapter for you.
What will you be doing?
As Reception Supervisor, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of our Front Office, ensuring our guests receive a consistently warm, thoughtful, and seamless experience. You will be a hands-on leader, leading from the front while supporting the Reception team and working closely with the wider hotel departments. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the shift: Taking ownership of the day-to-day operation of Reception, ensuring the team is organised, confident, and ready to deliver exceptional service.
- Being the go-to person: Taking control when challenges arise, making sound decisions, and managing unforeseen situations calmly and professionally.
- Creating memorable guest experiences: Welcoming guests personally, anticipating their needs, and ensuring each interaction reflects the warmth and quality of The Bath Priory.
- Supporting the team: Guiding, coaching, and motivating Reception colleagues, helping them develop their confidence and deliver consistently high standards.
- Managing the guest journey: Overseeing arrivals, departures, room allocations, billing, reservations, and guest requests, ensuring attention to detail at every stage.
- Making the most of Opera: Using your Opera experience to support an efficient Front Office operation, maintain accurate information, and help the team get the best from our systems.
- Handling guest feedback: Taking ownership of concerns and service recovery, finding thoughtful solutions, and knowing when to escalate matters appropriately.
- Communicating across departments: Working closely with Housekeeping, Restaurant, Pantry, Spa, and other teams to ensure smooth handovers and a joined-up guest experience.
- Supporting hotel standards: Ensuring procedures, brand standards, security requirements, and cash-handling processes are followed consistently.
- Thinking commercially: Understanding room availability, upselling opportunities, guest preferences, and the importance of maximising revenue while protecting the guest experience.
- Leading by example: Demonstrating the behaviours and standards we expect, while creating a positive and supportive working environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The person we're looking for
This role would suit someone with previous hotel Reception or Front Office experience who is ready to take their next step into a supervisory position, or someone already working at supervisory level who wants to develop further within a luxury hotel environment. Opera experience is highly desirable, as you will be confident working with a hotel property management system and supporting the team with its day-to-day use. You will be someone who:
- Has experience in a hotel Reception or Front Office role and understands the importance of an efficient, well-organised shift.
- Is ready to take responsibility and is comfortable making decisions within their level of authority.
- Can remain calm, professional, and solution-focused when things do not go to plan.
- Has the confidence to manage unexpected situations, prioritise competing demands, and support colleagues under pressure.
- Enjoys helping others develop and is comfortable giving guidance and constructive feedback.
- Communicates clearly and builds positive relationships across departments.
- Takes pride in accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail.
- Has a natural talent for making guests feel welcome, recognised, and valued.
- Understands that luxury hospitality is about anticipating needs and creating personal experiences, not simply following a checklist.
- Is curious, open to feedback, and keen to continue developing their leadership skills.
You don't need to know everything, but you do need to be ready to take ownership. We want someone who is willing to learn, confident enough to make decisions, and thoughtful enough to know when to ask for support.
Your shifts
Our Reception team operates across a variety of shifts, including:
- Early shift: 7:00am – 3:30pm
- Late shift: 3:00pm – 11:30pm
- Night shift: 11:30pm – 7:30am
Shift patterns vary, and flexibility is important to help us deliver a seamless service throughout the day. In return, we will always do our best to create fair rotas and support a healthy life/work balance. We know you have a life outside the hotel, and we think that matters too.
SERVICE CHARGE
We believe our team should share in the success they help create. Every month, our service charge goes into one pot, and 100% of the service charge received is shared amongst the hotel team. Every penny is paid out to our people. For a full-time employee, service charge can be around £160 per month – close to £2,000 a year – on top of your base pay, depending on the month. You will also receive tips on top.
Why join The Bath Priory?
You will be joining a team where hospitality is about much more than following a set of service steps. Our culture is incredibly important to us. We encourage everyone to show thoughtfulness towards our guests and, just as importantly, towards each other. As Reception Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to both the guest experience and the team around you. You will be trusted to take ownership, contribute ideas, and help shape the way we deliver hospitality.
