The Role
Be the friendly face that helps our practice run smoothly.
For many patients, our Reception team is their first point of contact with the practice. Whether they’re arriving for an appointment, calling with a question or trying to access the right service, the way we respond can make a real difference to their experience.
We’re looking for a Bank Receptionist / Administrator to join our team at Herstmonceux Integrative Health Centre, providing flexible cover when our practice needs additional support.
You’ll work at the heart of a busy GP practice, supporting patients while helping our clinical and administrative teams keep services organised and running smoothly.
No two shifts are quite the same. You could be welcoming patients, booking appointments, processing prescriptions, answering telephone enquiries, updating patient records, managing registrations or liaising with hospitals and community services.
You don’t necessarily need previous GP practice experience. If you have good administrative or customer service experience, are confident dealing with the public and can stay organised when things get busy, we’d like to hear from you. Previous experience within healthcare or a GP practice would be particularly valuable.
This is more than answering phones and booking appointments. You’ll be part of the team that helps patients navigate their care and keeps our practice moving every day.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Welcoming and supporting our patients Being a friendly and professional first point of contact, checking patients in, responding to questions and helping them access the right support.
- Managing appointments and enquiries Booking appointments and responding to telephone, email and face-to-face enquiries, taking accurate messages and making sure information reaches the right person.
- Supporting everyday patient care Processing repeat prescription requests, receiving patient specimens, supporting referrals and helping patients use our online services.
- Keeping patient records accurate Updating electronic patient records, scanning correspondence, processing registrations and ensuring information is recorded accurately and confidentially.
- Liaising With Other Healthcare Services Communicating with hospitals, community services and other healthcare colleagues to help referrals and patient information reach the right place.
- Keeping the practice organised Supporting general administration, processing post and emails, maintaining stationery and helping keep reception, waiting and consulting areas ready for patients and colleagues.
- Providing flexible Bank support Providing additional cover when the practice needs it, including periods of annual leave, sickness and increased demand, with Saturday or additional hours available where required.
- Protecting patient confidentiality Handling sensitive patient information every day and maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality, information governance and data protection.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
