Job Overview
We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our Children's Outpatients team, providing a welcoming and professional reception service for patients, visitors and colleagues.
This is a busy and varied role that requires excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will be the first point of contact for many of our patients, playing a vital role in ensuring they receive a positive experience from the moment they arrive.
You should have good IT skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a positive, flexible approach to work. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with changing demands and sensitive situations.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to patients and their families while working within a supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team.
If you enjoy helping people, are highly organised and thrive in a customer-focused environment, we would love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
As a key member of the outpatient team, you will work on the front reception desk, providing a welcoming, professional, and compassionate service to patients and visitors.
Your responsibilities will include managing patient information on the hospital Patient Administration System (Millennium), booking and coordinating appointments, handling telephone enquiries from patients, GPs, and other healthcare professionals, arranging patient transport, and undertaking a range of administrative duties to support the smooth running of the service.
Working for our organisation
We are proud to be part of BSW Hospitals Group - a formal partnership between the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. With a combined workforce of over 17, 600 colleagues, and budget of 1.6 billion the Group is united by a common purpose to deliver the best possible care to over 1 million people.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
