Administrative Assistant/Receptionist

A leading specialist barristers chambers, recognised as one of the foremost sets in its field, is seeking an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist to join its busy and highly regarded team. This is a varied and client-facing position that sits at the heart of chambers operations, combining front-of-house responsibilities with administrative support across clerking, fee collection, marketing, and general chambers administration. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering an exceptional service to barristers, solicitors, and clients, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of chambers while supporting a collaborative and professional team environment. This role offers excellent exposure to the legal sector and would suit someone looking to build a long-term career within chambers administration.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with previous chambers experience, although this is not essential. Experience gained within a professional services environment, such as legal, financial, or consultancy sectors, would be advantageous. The ideal individual will be highly organised, personable, and proactive, with excellent communication skills and a strong attention to detail. They will be comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, remain calm under pressure, and possess the flexibility to support colleagues across a range of functions. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, numerical aptitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential qualities for success in this role.

  • Answering, screening, and routing of incoming telephone calls
  • Meeting and greeting clients and visitors to Chambers
  • Dealing with post and couriers
  • Organising conferences, both in person and online, and providing refreshments as required
  • Ensuring the front of house (including the external courtyard) are well presented and maintained
  • Administering and reconciling the petty cash
  • Assisting clerks with e-bundling, scanning, and photocopying
  • Assisting in general admin

Secondary Role

  • Liaising with cleaning staff and maintenance contractors
  • Organising the weekly fire test
  • Organising weekly laundry collections/deliveries
  • Overseeing stock control for supplies used in conference rooms, kitchens, W/Cs, and other communal areas within chambers
  • Ordering catering for Chambers’ events
