Twickenham Primary School

Main Purpose of the Role

To provide an efficient, welcoming, and professional reception service to all visitors, pupils, and staff at Twickenham Primary School. The postholder will also support the administrative functions of the school office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for visitors, parents, pupils, and staff, ensuring all are greeted warmly and professionally
  • Answer incoming telephone calls, take messages, and direct calls appropriately
  • Manage the school’s visitor signing-in process and ensure safeguarding protocols are followed at all times
  • Handle incoming and outgoing post and deliveries
  • Provide general administrative support, including photocopying, filing, and maintaining records
  • Maintain the tidiness and organisation of the reception area
  • Support the school’s attendance procedures by recording absences and late arrivals as required
  • Assist with the organisation of school events and communications to parents/carers
  • Carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by the Office Manager or senior leadership team

Person Specification

Qualifications And Training

  • Good standard of general education (e.g. GCSEs or equivalent in English and maths)
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training

Experience

  • Previous experience in a receptionist or administrative role (desirable)
  • Experience working in a school or similar environment (desirable)

Skills and knowledge

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks
  • Understanding of safeguarding requirements in a school setting
