About the Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is the UK’s independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.
As we continue to deliver our five-year Corporate Plan, the Commission is building on a period of growth and change, expanding our workforce and modernising how we deliver our services to better support the needs of a changing democracy. As our organisation develops and adapts to meet future challenges, this post will play a vital part in supporting that progress and helping ensure we remain responsive to the democratic needs of voters, campaigners, parties and electoral administrators across the UK.
About the role
As a Senior Records Management Adviser, you will play an important role in helping the Commission manage its information effectively, securely and in line with legal and regulatory requirements. Working closely with the Records Lead, you will support the development of records management practices across the organisation, ensuring colleagues have the guidance, systems and training they need to manage information throughout its lifecycle.
The role combines operational delivery with advisory responsibilities, providing an opportunity to influence how information is managed across the Commission. You will work with a wide range of stakeholders, helping to drive compliance, improve processes and support the organisation's commitment to transparency and accountability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing advice and training on records management and information governance requirements
- Supporting compliance with legislation including the Public Records Act, Legal Deposit Libraries Act and UK GDPR
- Assisting with the appraisal, review and transfer of records to The National Archives and other places of deposit
- Managing the annual destruction process for records that fall outside Public Records Act requirements
- Supporting compliance with statutory publication and legal deposit obligations
- Advising teams on managing information within SharePoint and other digital systems
- Maintaining records management policies, guidance and the Information Asset Register
- Contributing to continuous improvements in records and information management practices across the organisation

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
