Job Summary
This is an excellent opportunity to lead a newly established team responsible for driving records management compliance across the National Crime Agency. With a particular focus on Review, Retention and Disposal (RRD) and Data Quality (DQ), ensuring information is managed effectively, lawfully and in support of organisational objectives.
Operating within a complex law enforcement environment, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for reviewing information held across the Agency, determining retention and disposal outcomes, and working with stakeholders to ensure systems and repositories remain compliant.
Working across a complex operational environment, you will provide leadership and direction to support consistent and compliant information management practices. This includes ensuring that decisions relating to the review, retention and disposal of information are informed by relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice, including IPA (Investigatory Powers Act), RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers), CPIA (Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act) and PIRM (Police Information and Records Management).
Working collaboratively across the Agency, you will strengthen information management practices, improve compliance and data quality, and support the effective management of information-related risk through robust governance and assurance.
Job Description
The post holder will be responsible for leading and embedding records management and data quality standards, controls and requirements across the Agency, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and information management best practice. Initially focusing on Subject of Interest (SoI) data within POLE (People, Objects, Locations and Events), the post holder will drive the development of the Agency's data quality capability, ensuring information is accurate, reliable and fit for operational and strategic use.
As the Agency lead for records management compliance and a key point of accountability for data quality, the post holder will identify, assess and mitigate information and data quality risks, oversee compliance with retention and disposal requirements, and provide assurance that records and data are managed appropriately throughout their lifecycle. The post holder will develop standards, policies and performance measures that strengthen information integrity, support informed decision-making and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the Agency to improve information and data management practices, support the effective use of systems and technologies, and drive sustainable improvements in governance, compliance and organisational capability.
The post holder will be a key member of the Chief Data Office Senior Leadership Team and will work closely with the Knowledge and Information Management Senior Manager to ensure a coordinated approach to records management, information governance, data quality and wider data management activities across the NCA.
For candidates interested in the role on a part-time basis, please be aware that we would expect candidates to commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week (Monday-Friday) over three days.

Review, Retention & Disposal (RRD) Compliance
- Lead Agency compliance with Review, Retention and Disposal requirements, ensuring records are reviewed, retained and disposed of in accordance with legislation, policy, regulatory obligations and operational needs.

Team Leadership & Programme Delivery
- Build, lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for delivering the Agency's records review, retention and disposal programme, ensuring effective prioritisation, delivery of remediation activity and continuous improvement.

Policy, Standards & Capability Development
- Develop and implement policies, standards, processes, training and guidance to support compliance with RRD legislation, regulatory requirements and best practice across the Agency.

Governance, Risk & Assurance
- Establish reporting and assurance frameworks, providing oversight through governance forums (including senior DDaT leadership, the Data Governance Board (DGB), Executive Committee (ExCo) and Audit and Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC)) whilst managing corporate RRD risks, ensuring appropriate controls and remediation activities are implemented in line with the Agency's risk appetite.

- Develop and mature the Chief Data Office's data quality capability, establishing standards, controls and assurance processes to improve data quality and information management, with an initial focus on Subject of Interest data.

Salary and Benefits

Assessment Stages
Assessment 1
The format of this assessment will be Role Play which will be tested on via the details listed below.
- You will be required to take part in a Role Play Exercise, assessing the technical criteria:
- Proven experience of providing strategic leadership for information governance, establishing robust frameworks and assurance mechanisms that effectively manage risk, strengthen compliance and embed adherence to organisational standards, policies and procedures.
- The role play scenario will be you presenting your approach to deal with a question or a problem to your Senior Leadership Team.
- Candidates successful at application sift will receive the role play scenario question/problem in advance. The role play will be no longer than 30 minutes.
- Candidates who pass this stage will be invited to attend a second-stage interview at a later date, where they will be assessed against the remaining criteria outlined in this advert.
Assessment 2
The format of this assessment will be Interview which will be tested on the criteria listed in the Success Profiles at Assessment section.
Assessment Outcomes
Outcomes will be communicated via the NCA recruitment portal.
If successful but no role is immediately available, you may be placed on a reserve list for 12 months.
Reserve lists can be used to fill similar role types across the Agency where the assessment criteria is considered a match by the recruitment team and the business area.
