Recovery and Enforcement Team Leader

Lead a high-performing team and make a real difference to the collection of vital local revenues.

We are seeking an experienced revenues professional to join our award-winning Revenues Service and play a pivotal role in leading high-performing collection and recovery services across the borough.

As our Recovery and Enforcement Team Leader, you will lead a dedicated and knowledgeable team responsible for the recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates and Housing Benefit Overpayments. You'll have the opportunity to shape performance, drive continuous improvement and help ensure the Council continues to deliver essential services to residents.

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent leadership skills and enjoys supporting others to achieve their best. What you'll be doing

  • Leading and developing a high-performing Recovery and Enforcement Team.
  • Managing the recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates and Housing Benefit Overpayment debt.
  • Ensuring recovery action is taken in accordance with legislation, Council policies and agreed timescales.
  • Supporting service improvement and helping maximise collection performance.
  • Preparing and presenting Committal Court proceedings at the Magistrates' Court.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and partners to deliver positive outcomes for residents and the Council.

What we're looking for

  • Experience of Council Tax, Business Rates and Housing Benefit Overpayment recovery.
  • Strong knowledge of recovery and enforcement legislation.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making and leadership skills.
  • Experience preparing and presenting legal or court documentation within a Revenues environment.
  • Ability to attend Council offices a minimum of three days per week as part of our hybrid working arrangements.
