We are a leader in leisure industry specific apprenticeships giving you the skills and qualifications to have a career in leisure. This 12 month work based programme will include both on and off the job training and give you a Level 2 Leisure Team Member qualification.

Everyone Active is looking for a new Leisure Team Member Apprentice.

The role involves fitness instructing, lifeguarding, swim teaching, and leading group activity sessions - a fantastic opportunity to begin your career in the leisure industry.

If invited to interview, you’ll need to complete a swim test and demonstrate the following:

  • Jump or dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water, then tread water for 30 seconds

You will work as part of a team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the leisure centre. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise poolside activities and always ensure customer safety
  • Assist in the setup and delivery of fitness classes and group activity sessions
  • Provide excellent customer service to all members and visitors. Maintain cleanliness and operational standards across all facilities and support the reception and administration teams when required

We need an Apprentice Recreation Assistant who will:

  • Want to learn to be an effective communicator with other team members
  • Be part of a motivated team fully embracing our company values
  • Want to learn to deliver high customer service standards
  • Want to ensure high levels of cleanliness and housekeeping are maintained within the centre
  • Ensure equipment setups are completed safely and on time

National Pool Lifeguard qualification will be gained during the course so you’ll need to be able to swim to a competent level. You’ll also achieve a swimming teacher and fitness qualification.

This position will involve day, evening and weekend work, including public holidays and requires an enhanced DBS check which we will complete before you start.

Apprenticeship Details:

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Training course:
Leisure team member (level 2)

Course contents:

  • Work in a team to support peers and colleagues to meet the goals of the business.
  • Communicate (written, verbal) accurately and effectively and in line with legal requirements. E.g. Information on products and accident reporting procedures.
  • Undertake the operational housekeeping of the leisure facility. For example, assembling, dismantling, routine maintenance and storage of equipment. Cleaning tasks. Opening and closing procedures, including evacuation. Safe set up of equipment and activities.
  • Monitor customer use of equipment and ensure their safety, intervening as necessary.
  • Comply with the legal requirements to ensure the safety, security and well-being of all colleagues and customers within the facility, such as Equality Act, HSE Act, COSHH, RIDDOR, Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Data Protection, BSI and European guidelines relevant to the environment, first aid regulations.
  • Use IT including front of house system, social media and digital channels.
  • Perform all the duties of a swimming teacher including; delivering swimming lessons that develop water confidence, core aquatic skills, safety and technical skills across a range of participants of different abilities from non swimmer to advanced. Promoting and raising awareness of swimming opportunities. Supervising and leading swimming teachers assistants.
  • Perform the duties of a lifeguard including; working as part of a team to provide safe supervision of swimmers and prevent accidents. How to intervien providing rescues and life saving techniques when necessary.
  • Perform all of the duties of a gym instructor; including; conducting, gym inductions, client consultations, assessment and review and health screening. Use underpinning knowledge of anatomy, physiology, human movement and biomechanics and applying fitness training techniques. Planning, reviewing and delivering safe and effective gym based exercise programmes with individuals and small groups.
  • Plan activity sessions using techniques that are suitable for the participant(s) and their goals.
  • Undertake pre-activity screening and health and safety checks when leading group sessions/classes.
  • Lead groups using appropriate communication methods and instructing styles and apply suitable group management techniques when instructing participants.

The apprentice will receive full on the job training as well as 20% off the job training, they will also receive a full wrap around service from SCL.

GCSE in:

  • Maths (grade 4)
  • English (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

The candidate must be a strong swimmer and be able to complete a swim test as part of the interview process.
