The Position

Are you organised, detail-focused and interested in how we attract and recruit people to work for NHS Orkney?

We're looking for a Recruitment Advisor to join our busy People Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in Recruitment and HR while helping ensure we attract and onboard the people who deliver healthcare services across Orkney. This role is offered as a fixed-term contract or secondment to cover maternity leave.

Supporting recruitment and agency staffing activities, you’ll coordinate and track pre-employment checks, ensuring they are completed in line with relevant policies, procedures and frameworks. You’ll also prepare key recruitment documentation, including adverts, recruitment packs, offers, contracts of employment and statements of terms and conditions.

You’ll help promote NHS Orkney as a great place to work through recruitment marketing and attraction activities, including the creation of engaging content to support our vacancies.

As our Recruitment and HR teams come together to form a new People Services function, there will be opportunities to become involved in supporting wider HR advisory and employee relations activity as the service evolves.

The Candidate

You should be educated to HNC level in Business, Management, HR or another relative subject, or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience gained through work.

Previous recruitment experience is advantageous, but not essential as full training can be provided. We welcome applications from those looking to develop a career in Recruitment, HR or People Services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
