This is an exciting opportunity to begin a career in recruitment, workforce systems and business admin.

From supporting recruitment campaigns and welcoming new colleagues to the Trust, to maintaining employee records you'll gain experience across a wide range of People & OD activities.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working.

You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As part of our Recruitment & ESR Team, you'll learn how to provide administrative support that helps keep essential people processes running smoothly across the Trust.

Throughout your apprenticeship you'll receive support, training and practical experience whilst developing valuable skills in recruitment, workforce systems, customer service and administration.

A typical day may include:

  • Supporting recruitment campaigns and helping candidates through different stages of the recruitment process, promoting Gateshead Health as a great place to work.
  • Assisting with the preparation of employment documents and onboarding information for new starters.
  • Learning how to accurately update and maintain employee records using workforce systems, developing valuable skills in workforce administration and data management.
  • Developing customer service and communication skills through responding to telephone and email enquiries from staff, managers and applicants.
  • Helping staff access workforce systems and services whilst building your knowledge of NHS processes.
  • Handling confidential and sensitive information professionally and appropriately.
  • Assisting with routine reports, data quality checks and other administrative activities that support the wider team.

What you'll learn

Course contents

Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.

Depending on your job role and work environment:

  • Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
  • Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
  • Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

Training schedule

You will undertake a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner apprenticeship which will be delivered on-site, one day per week.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • IT (grade C/4 or above)
  • Maths and English (grade C/4 or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
