Contract Recruitment Consultant, Energy and Infrastructure

About BOSS Energy Consulting

BOSS Energy Consulting is a specialist recruitment firm placing techno-commercial talent into climate hardware. For over 13 years we have recruited for the companies building the physical side of the energy transition: industrial decarbonisation, electrochemistry, hydrogen, carbon removal, energy storage, industrial heat and concentrated solar, alongside renewable generation and adjacent climate infrastructure.

Our clients range from venture-backed developers taking first-of-a-kind technology to commercial scale through to established European energy companies.

Alongside executive search, we supply contract professionals to the project teams that design, build and commission these plants.

We are headquartered in South East London, with offices in Amsterdam and Singapore.

Your Mission

BOSS is looking for a Contract Recruitment Consultant to deliver contractors into live client requirements across our verticals. This is a hands-on, fast-moving role with two outputs that matter: a steady flow of qualified, available contractor CVs against client requirements, and a pipeline of qualified business development leads for new contract work. You will report to the Contracts Recruitment Director.

Most of your time will go on sourcing, screening and placing contractors, with the remainder spent building the lead pipeline that becomes our next requirements; as a guide, around 70% delivery and 30% lead generation.

Your responsibilities will centre around:

Contractor sourcing and delivery

  • Respond quickly to live contract requirements, submitting a shortlist within 48 hours of receiving a brief;
  • Build and maintain a pool of pre-screened contractors across our verticals and disciplines, including process, project, commissioning and HSE, tracking availability dates, day rates and locations;
  • Screen contractors for technical fit, day rate, availability, notice and right to work, and confirm their engagement route (limited company or umbrella) and compliance before submission;
  • Prepare CVs and submissions in the BOSS house format;
  • Negotiate and confirm day rates, manage offers, and see contractors through compliance checks and onboarding to start;
  • Stay in contact with contractors on assignment, tracking end dates to secure extensions and redeploy people into their next role;
  • Share day-rate and availability insight gathered during requirements with the wider team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Qualified lead generation

  • Monitor the market for contract hiring signals across our verticals: final investment decisions, EPC and construction contract awards, grant awards, commissioning schedules, funding rounds and contract job postings;
  • Use contractor end dates and conversations with contractors on assignment to identify upcoming requirements and new project teams;
  • Research each signal to the point of qualification: the likely requirement, the hiring manager, the timing, and whether the client works through a preferred supplier list and how to get onto it;
  • Log qualified leads in the BOSS BD system to the agreed standard, with the evidence behind each one, and hand them to the relevant vertical lead;
  • Make first contact with qualified leads and book introductory calls.

This role requires hands-on sourcing, calling and research every day.

Candidates looking for a purely account-management role are not encouraged to apply.

Abilities and expertise we are looking for

  • One to four years' experience in contract recruitment, ideally in energy, engineering, construction or other technical sectors;
  • A track record of filling contract requirements at pace, including headhunting contractors who are not actively looking;
  • Working knowledge of IR35 and the off-payroll working rules, and of contractor compliance and engagement routes;
  • Confidence negotiating day rates with contractors and clients, and an understanding of contract margin;
  • Familiarity with the project lifecycle (development, construction, commissioning and operations) and the roles each phase needs is a plus;
  • Working knowledge of LinkedIn Recruiter and of maintaining a clean, structured pipeline in Excel or an ATS;
  • A track record of generating business development leads or winning new contract clients is a strong plus;
  • Clear, accurate written English; additional European languages a plus;
  • Right to work in the UK.

Mindset we are looking for

  • Urgent: you understand that contract requirements are won by whoever submits the right person first;
  • Self-driven: you set your own daily activity and deliver it without being chased;
  • Accurate: you record what contractors actually told you about rates and availability, and you flag gaps rather than filling them;
  • Relationship-minded: you keep in touch with good contractors between assignments, not just when you need them;
  • Resilient on the phone and comfortable hearing no;
  • Humble, low-ego and keen to learn the technology behind the roles you recruit for.

What we have to offer

  • Specialist exposure: contract work on projects at the frontier of industrial decarbonisation, alongside consultants with deep sector networks;
  • A small, flat team where your contribution to revenue and new business is visible;
  • Competitive base salary plus commission on contract margin;
  • Two-week Christmas closure, workplace pension and Director lunches;
  • Hybrid working: Monday to Thursday in the office, Friday from home.

Our process

  • An initial call (20 to 30 mins) with a Senior Consultant to discuss BOSS, the role and your career expectations;
  • A practical exercise: a sample contract requirement with a short turnaround, where you produce a shortlist approach and identify two or three qualified leads, reviewed together on a video call (45 to 60 mins) with the Contracts Recruitment Director;
  • A final interview with Mike Johnson, Managing Director;
  • Reference calls with provided contacts.
