The Role
We're looking for a Trainee Recruitment Consultant to join our contract and permanent desks within the AI and Data Science specialism. This is not a graduate scheme, and it isn't a script-reading, cold-calling role. We're looking for someone who has already proven they can build a relationship and hold a real conversation with a stranger, in any commercial setting, and now wants to bring that ability into recruitment. No prior recruitment, AI or Data Science experience is required. What matters far more to us is how you build trust with people. That's the part we can't easily teach.
You'll be trained from the ground up: understanding our markets, learning how a desk actually runs, and working closely alongside the team as you build your own book of clients and candidates. Onboarding is structured and hands-on rather than sink-or-swim. You'll spend time researching your market before taking on live work, shadowing experienced calls, and building up to business development in phases rather than being handed a phone on day one.

Key Responsibilities
- Learn our AI & Data Science markets from the inside. Your first weeks will include research into a specific market segment, presented back to the team, before you take on live work.
- Build genuine relationships with candidates and clients. This is the core skill the role is built around, more than technical or market knowledge.
- Support live contract and permanent desks: sourcing, screening and managing candidates through process.
- Progress into direct business development as you build confidence and market knowledge, approaching new clients and candidates on your own desk.
- Use our CRM and Claude to research companies, manage your pipeline, and stay on top of your desk.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records as your book grows.
- Take part in structured, ongoing training, including reviewing real client and candidate calls to learn what good looks like.

What We're Looking For
- Proven experience building relationships and managing an ongoing book of business or clients, from sales, account management, hospitality, financial services, or any other client-facing commercial role. This is a career change, not a first job.
- A genuine track record of holding conversations that build trust quickly. You know how to get someone to open up, and you enjoy doing it.
- Real curiosity about people and businesses. You ask good questions because you actually want the answers.
- Resilience and self-motivation. Recruitment has highs and lows, and we're looking for someone who holds themselves to a high standard rather than needing to be chased.
- Ambition for a commercial, target-driven career where your earnings and progression are tied directly to what you build.
- Comfortable working in a small, close-knit team where you'll be visible and supported, not lost in a large training cohort.
