About the Role
We have recorded more than 120 conversations with General Counsel. That is roughly the job description: we spend our time talking to the people most recruiters spend years trying to get on the phone.
About Us
Heriot Brown turns ten this year. We are a specialist in-house legal, compliance, regulatory, and company secretarial. Small team. Senior clients. No sales floor.
What is Actually Different
- You would own a desk rather than a slice of somebody else's.
- You would be speaking to General Counsel early, not after a two-year apprenticeship in call volume.
- When you introduce yourself, the firm's name will already mean something to the person on the other end because they listen to our podcast, or they are in The Lodge, or they have attended some of our Webinars.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
That last part is the bit people underestimate. Building a personal brand in recruitment normally takes five years and a lot of posting into the void. Here you would be plugged into an audience that already exists, and you would be encouraged to build your own name inside it rather than hide behind ours.
What Autonomy Actually Looks Like
- You decide who you call, which searches you take, and how you run them.
- Nobody counts your calls or asks you to account for your diary.
Support is there when you want it rather than scheduled at you. A second opinion on a shortlist, a hand with an awkward client conversation, someone to sit in on a pitch—ask and you will get it. If you would rather run it yourself, run it yourself. [Scott] did this job before founding the firm and is around when you want him.

Who This is Not For
If you want a large floor, a published ladder, and somebody telling you what to do at eight in the morning, we are the wrong firm, and you would be unhappy by month four. Those environments train people well. We just are not one.
What You Need
- One to three years in recruitment. The market matters less than you think; we have taught legal to people who arrived from elsewhere.
- What does not transfer is curiosity and the willingness to have a proper conversation rather than a qualifying one.
Apply here, or message Scott directly. Either is fine.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
