Umbrella - £17.42 per hour - Umbrella
Job Purpose
As a Homeless Assistant, you will support Cardiff Council's Housing Options Service by providing frontline advice and administrative support to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will be the first point of contact for service users, assisting with enquiries, housing applications, homelessness presentations, and maintaining accurate records while ensuring excellent customer service.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Act as a first point of contact for clients presenting as homeless or at risk of homelessness.
- Meet and greet customers attending the Housing Options Service.
- Set up and maintain customer records and case files.
- Provide information and advice via:
- Face-to-face contact
- Telephone
- Webchat
- Assist with processing homelessness applications.
- Support Housing Assessment Officers with case administration.
- Process bond and rent-in-advance applications.
- Provide guidance regarding available housing options and private rented accommodation.
- Liaise with landlords, letting agents, and housing partners.
- Help maintain and update housing waiting lists.
- Manage team mailboxes and incoming enquiries.
- Prepare reports, statistics, and monitoring information.
- Maintain accurate records and confidential information.
- Assist in meeting service KPIs and performance targets.
- Support customer complaint resolution and service improvement initiatives.
- Provide administrative support across the Housing Options Team.

Essential Experience Required
- Experience within:
- Housing Services
- Homelessness Services
- Customer Services
- Housing Options
- Local Authority Administration
- Experience working directly with members of the public.
- Experience handling confidential information.
- Experience using databases and maintaining records.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Experience managing email inboxes and enquiries.
- Experience working to targets and deadlines.
- Good customer service and communication skills.

Additional Information to Note
- Working hours: 37 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday.
- Office-based role.
- Location: County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW.
- Online Interview Date: 25th September 2026.
- Interview Duration: Approximately 30 minutes.
- Supplier Submission Deadline: 24th September 2026.
