Reference Data Business Analyst
Contract opportunity | London | Hybrid
We are currently recruiting for a Reference Data Business Analyst to join our client. The focus will be on Equities and ETFs, with a strong emphasis on data quality, corporate actions and the impact of reference data on trading and downstream processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong financial markets reference data experience who can bridge business requirements and technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate business and regulatory requirements into reference data entities, datasets and business rules.
- Work closely with Data and Platform Architects to map business requirements to the technical data model.
- Gather and validate requirements with Trading, Operations, Compliance and Research stakeholders.
- Define and improve data quality rules and controls, including completeness, accuracy, timeliness and referential integrity.
- Support exception-management workflows and investigate data-quality issues.
- Provide subject-matter expertise across equity reference data, securities/instrument data and corporate actions.
- Understand the full corporate-action lifecycle, including dividends, splits, mergers, delistings and identifier changes.
- Assess the downstream impact of incorrect or incomplete reference data on trading and operational processes.
- Produce data dictionaries, requirements specifications, data mappings and data models/ERDs.
- Use SQL to interrogate, validate and analyse data.
- Work closely with Technology, Data Engineering and Architecture teams through delivery, testing and implementation.

Essential Experience
- Strong experience as a Business Analyst / Data Business Analyst within financial services or capital markets.
- Hands-on experience with reference data, securities data, instrument data or security master platforms.
- Strong understanding of equity reference data.
- Experience with corporate actions and their lifecycle and downstream impact.
- Experience working with ETFs is highly desirable, ideally including knowledge of composition, baskets and creation/redemption mechanics.
- Strong requirements gathering and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience translating business requirements into structured and testable data requirements and rules.
- Understanding of data quality, validation, reconciliation and exception management.
- Experience with data models, entity relationships, data dictionaries and/or source-to-target mappings.
- Strong SQL skills for data analysis and investigation.
- Ability to work effectively across business and technical teams.
