Veterinary Surgeon Opportunity at Animal Trust Barnsley Hospital
We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for surgery to join our growing referral team at Animal Trust Barnsley Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative, specialist-led environment with a strong focus on clinical excellence, affordability, and making advanced veterinary care accessible to more pets and their owners.
About the Role
We are looking for a surgeon to support our growing referral caseload across soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. Candidates with experience in one or both disciplines are encouraged to apply.
This role would ideally suit an Advanced Practitioner, or an experienced Certificate holder with a strong interest in referral-level surgery. The role may also be of interest to a Diplomate surgeon and applications from specialist surgeons will be considered with appropriate remuneration.
Working alongside our multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with colleagues in ECC, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, and first opinion practice to deliver outstanding patient care.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
