The role

As a Refrigeration Fitter, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining the safety, performance and reliability of refrigeration systems that support submarines and surface vessels. This is more than a technical role – it’s an opportunity to directly contribute to national defence while developing your engineering expertise within a highly skilled team.

You’ll be involved in essential maintenance, inspections and repairs, ensuring the Royal Navy’s fleet remains operationally ready. Working in this fast-paced and purpose-driven environment will challenge you, develop your skills and offer long-term career progression within defence, aerospace and engineering.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance on refrigeration systems, including safety-critical work
  • Diagnosing faults and resolving defects to maintain operational capability
  • Completing repairs, inspections and fitting activities across a range of systems
  • Always Following health and safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work
  • Identifying and suggesting improvements to enhance performance and productivity.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane. Set working times provide consistency and support a healthy work-life balance.

  • Proven experience in refrigeration within marine, shipbuilding, industrial, transport or commercial engineering environments
  • Experience working in an engineering maintenance setting
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Transferable skills from other engineering trades will also be considered.

Qualifications for the Refrigeration Fitter:

  • Level 3 qualification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or equivalent
  • F Gas Category 1 certification
  • Other Level 3 engineering qualifications may be considered depending on experience.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
