Refuse & Recycling HGV Driver/Loader

Drive your career forward with a professional, safety-first team – local routes, early finishes and a well-supported Council role. You must hold a HGV Class C (Class 2) licence – earn up to £29,071 per annum plus great benefits, including a temporary market forces supplement of £1.77 per hour in addition to your basic salary.

About

Are you looking for a new role or a new challenge or just a change from a normal driving job? If so, we offer an excellent benefits package, with sociable working hours, early daily finishes, no overnight trips and work in the local area with no long-distance journeys.

In recent years, East Staffordshire has experienced significant housing growth, and the waste management team currently collects refuse and recycling from over 55,000 properties each week. The team currently has several vacancies for Refuse & Recycling Driver/Loaders to help deliver our new food waste collection service. This role will complement our existing team and help maintain our high service standards.

The Role

The role involves the driving of allocated waste collection vehicles, including 7.5 tonne food waste vehicles and, when required, 26-tonne refuse vehicles.

You will drive and be responsible for your allocated vehicle, including its security, and you will control and supervise the staff that are with you. Prior to leaving the depot, you will be responsible for checking that the vehicle is roadworthy by undertaking a Daily Vehicle Maintenance Check and for reporting any defects to the Supervisor in accordance with Council procedure. The use of an in-cab device to check workflow demands is also required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
