Refuse & Recycling Team Leader (HGV Refuse Driver)
80 hours per fortnight – Permanent post
£30,917 - £35,240 per annum (pay award pending)
About The Team
We are seeking experienced team leaders to supervise a collection team and be responsible for allocated vehicles and other resources to ensure safe, efficient and customer-focused delivery of recycling and refuse collection services in accordance with the Council’s operational and service delivery standards.
About The Role
The role includes the requirement to lead and supervise staff to achieve high levels of performance and productivity. This requires the candidates to possess good oral and written skills and the ability to make reliable, sound, balanced, and consistent judgments.
You will be making day-to-day operational decisions to ensure that the Council’s operational and service delivery requirements are achieved. The candidates will effectively liaise with team members and members of the general public.
You will be responsible for ensuring team members carry out their duties in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures and operate to agreed methods of working, including safe systems of work set out in the Council’s health and safety policies and procedures.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and best practice
- Full, valid EU driving licence (category C)
- Educated in manual handling
- Flexibility to work additional hours, as required, to ensure effective and efficient service delivery
- Understanding of refuse/recycling methods of collection and practice
- Relevant experience of driving class C vehicles
- Good oral and written communication skills including the ability to produce clear and precise records
- Ability to maintain high standards of service delivery and compliance with operational requirements, in particular health and safety requirements

Skills And Experience
Skills and Experience we are looking for are:
- Relevant experience of working with the public and delivering high levels of customer satisfaction in a face-to-face role
- Experience of supervising or managing staff and dealing effectively with situations involving conflict with others
- Experience of making routine service decisions in accordance with established procedures
- Recording of information for processing including using ICT solutions
- Experience of collecting, collating, and processing information
- Good oral and written communication skills including the ability to produce clear and precise records
- The ability to lead and supervise a team to achieve high levels of performance and productivity
- The ability to plan work and manage delivery to meet deadlines and quality criteria
- Ability to make reliable, sound, balanced, and consistent judgments
- Ability to maintain high standards of service delivery and compliance with operational requirements, in particular health and safety requirements
- ICT user skills including mobile ICT solutions
