1 Month Contract with a Local Authority

Umbrella - £22.33 per hour - umbrella

Job Purpose

As a Refuse Driver, you will be responsible for operating HGV refuse collection vehicles safely and efficiently while supporting waste management and environmental services across North Yorkshire. You will ensure collections are completed on schedule, maintain vehicle safety standards, and deliver high levels of customer service to local residents.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Drive refuse collection vehicles on designated collection routes.
  • Carry out daily vehicle inspections and safety checks.
  • Ensure vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant with transport regulations.
  • Support refuse and recycling collection operations.
  • Work closely with collection crews to deliver efficient waste services.
  • Complete vehicle defect reports and maintenance documentation.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety policies and safe working practices.
  • Operate vehicles safely within residential and public environments.
  • Report incidents, accidents, and operational issues.
  • Assist with loading and collection duties where required.
  • Maintain excellent customer service standards when interacting with the public.
  • Ensure routes are completed efficiently and on schedule.

Essential Experience Required

  • Experience driving HGV vehicles.
  • Experience working within Waste Management, Refuse Collection, Environmental Services, or Local Authority operations.
  • Experience carrying out vehicle safety inspections and defect reporting.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.

Essential Qualifications Required

  • Valid HGV Licence.
  • Driver CPC Qualification Card.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Right to Work in the UK.

Additional Information to Note

  • Working hours: 40 hours per week.
  • Shift Pattern:
    • Start: 06:00
    • Finish: 17:00
  • HGV Licence and CPC are mandatory.
  • Immediate start preferred.
  • We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
