Python Developer – Compliance Technology | 6-Month Contract | London
Hybrid (3 days onsite per week)
We are looking for a Python Developer to join our client’s Compliance Technology team in London. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on software developer with strong Python and SQL skills, experience within financial services, and exposure to regulatory reporting, compliance technology or market surveillance.
The Role
You will be responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting technology solutions that underpin regulatory reporting, market surveillance and compliance processes. Working closely with Technology, Compliance and business stakeholders, you will translate regulatory and business requirements into robust technical solutions, improve existing systems, and help ensure the technology remains aligned with evolving regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain regulatory reporting and market surveillance systems and controls
- Translate regulatory and business requirements into effective technology solutions
- Design and build frameworks, tools and applications from scratch
- Work with Compliance, Technology and business teams to deliver regulatory initiatives
- Maintain and optimise existing regulatory technology systems
- Develop data validation, reconciliation and quality assurance processes
- Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, accuracy and technical processes
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues
- Provide technical support for regulatory and compliance technology
- Work with stakeholders to understand requirements and resolve technical queries
- Keep up to date with regulatory developments and assess their potential technology impact

What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of commercial software development experience
- Strong Python development experience
- Strong SQL and database knowledge
- Experience designing and developing software, frameworks or tools from scratch
- Experience working within financial services / capital markets
- Understanding of financial products, particularly derivatives
- Experience with regulatory reporting, compliance technology, market surveillance or related regulatory systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good understanding of modern software architecture
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have:
- Experience with MiFID II, EMIR, MAR, SFTR or transaction reporting
- Market or trade surveillance experience
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
- Experience with APIs, microservices or event-driven architecture
- Data quality, reconciliation or validation framework experience
- Experience working within a bank, investment bank, trading firm or financial technology company
- Experience with AI-assisted development / vibe coding
