About the Role

Barrett Steel are seeking an experienced ITSSAR registered Forklift and Over Head Gantry Crane Lifting Instructor to join our established team. You’ll be supporting our sites to be fully aligned to the Barrett Steel Group Policy and Strategy for Health & Safety to achieve the defined objectives. The sites will be measured against those objectives, and you will provide support to help them achieve continuous improvement. This role will support our other Trainers; therefore, you should be located in the Midlands area to cover both Midlands and Southern sites, this will include Dudley, Burton, Gloucester, Northampton, Willenhall, Cradley as well as Ireland and other Southern based sites.

Please note there is just one role however it is being advertised across 3 locations due to the flexible nature of where the role is based.

You’ll be responsible for specific tasks such as:

  • To deliver specific training courses, required by the business, to site employees- both new starters, refresher and upskilling current employees.
  • Developing new or enhancing existing training courses.
  • Ensuring the training provision meets the standard of 100% compliance with Group policies and with all relevant legislation.
  • Scheduling and delivering training sessions.
  • Reporting any issues relating to employee training and the capabilities of employees for the training being undertaken, to site management.
  • Working closely with site management to help them achieve the level of performance expected as part of the Group.
  • Providing site support and training when new systems are implemented, or training gaps are identified.
  • To raise any concerns, you identify, or employees make you aware of, relating to Environmental, H&S and BI issues within the business and working with the site/business leads to address those concerns.
  • Help to identify and share best practices throughout the group.

  • Experience of working within the steel stockholding / warehousing Industry.
  • Applicants should hold a current ITSSAR qualification with at least 24 months industry experience.
  • Strong PC skills - Word & PowerPoint, experience of Excel an advantage.
  • Able to influence/guide colleagues at all levels in the business.
  • Able to problem solve.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to organise and hold effective training sessions.
  • Good time management and organisation skills.
  • Good team support with strong self-motivation when working alone.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification is desirable.
  • Midlands based, able to travel as often as necessary to all sites across the Midlands and South plus visits to Ireland and possibly other sites if needed.
  • Full UK driving license, able to travel to all sites, this will include overnight stays.
