Regional MEP Design Lead

A tier one building services contractor is looking to appoint a Regional MEP Design Lead to strengthen the technical leadership of its pre-construction and project-delivery teams across London and the Home Counties.
This is a newly created senior appointment, working alongside the existing technical leadership rather than replacing it. You will provide greater ownership of design validation, compliance and multidisciplinary coordination across a portfolio of technically complex building-services projects. Projects will typically be taken forward from RIBA Stage 4. You will ensure designs are compliant, robust, buildable and properly coordinated before continuing to support project teams during construction.
The position requires someone capable of operating across both mechanical and electrical services, challenging design information and resolving technical issues before they affect procurement, programme or delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide regional technical leadership across multiple projects and PCSAs.
- Review and validate MEP designs from approximately RIBA Stage 4.
- Assess designs for compliance, buildability, coordination and technical robustness.
- Coordinate contracted design packages across mechanical, electrical and specialist disciplines.
- Identify design gaps, technical risks and interface issues.
- Challenge consultant, subcontractor and supply-chain design information.
- Support value engineering without compromising compliance or performance.
- Work with pre-construction teams to develop technically deliverable project solutions.
- Assist project teams with complex technical matters during construction.
- Support testing, commissioning, handover and technical-assurance activities.
- Maintain consistent engineering and design standards across the regional portfolio.
- Engage with clients, consultants, project teams and specialist subcontractors.
What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive experience in MEP design, engineering or technical management.
- Strong knowledge of both mechanical and electrical building services.
- Detailed understanding of design compliance and technical-assurance processes.
- Experience reviewing and coordinating designs at RIBA Stage 4.
- Ability to assess buildability and translate design intent into practical installation solutions.
- Experience supporting projects through pre-construction and on-site delivery.
- Contractor experience is preferred, although strong consultancy candidates will be considered.
- A mechanical or electrical bias is acceptable, provided you can operate confidently across both disciplines.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to oversee several projects across London and the Home Counties.
