Description
The Michigan Democratic Party is seeking an experienced Regional Organizing Director to own the Out of State Organizing lane for the 2026 Coordinated Campaign. We are looking for a passionate, hardworking leader who is committed to building the grassroots turnout operation needed to win close elections this November.
Michigan will be one of the most-watched states in the country this cycle, and volunteers from every state will want to help us win it. This Regional’s job is to turn that energy into voter contact.
At their core, Regional Organizing Directors are coaches, who are always ready to roll up their sleeves and jump onto the field. This Regional will coach and manage a team of Organizers and Fellows running the out of state program, and will play a critical role in executing the coordinated campaign’s statewide organizing strategy.
This role reports to the Deputy Organizing Director and is based in Michigan.
Key Responsibilities & Characteristics
- Own the out of state organizing lane end to end: recruitment, onboarding, training, retention, and deployment of out of state volunteers toward voter contact goals.
- Coach, mentor, and manage a team of Organizers to ensure effective implementation of the out of state organizing plan, and support the hiring, onboarding, and development of Organizing staff, including Organizers and Fellows.
- Recruit and maintain relationships with out of state organizations, partner groups, sister state parties, alumni and diaspora networks, volunteer leaders, and high-capacity individual volunteers.
- Build and run virtual volunteer trainings, onboarding pipelines, and volunteer management processes across Slack, Zoom, Mobilize, and other online platforms.
- Serve as the connective tissue between the out of state volunteer base and Michigan’s geographic regions — routing volunteers into phone banks, text banks, relational programs, and in-person shifts where the program needs them most.
- Develop systems and processes that drive accountability, data integrity, and consistent execution.
- Monitor progress toward daily, weekly, and phase-based goals, and provide strategic intervention when Organizers or volunteer leaders fall behind.
- Support the Deputy Organizing Director in systems management and troubleshooting program execution on the ground.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills And Qualifications
- At least 1+ cycles of organizing experience, with a strong preference for at least 1-2 cycles of experience managing paid staff.
- Experience with distributed, virtual, digital, or out of state organizing — or equivalent non-campaign experience building and managing volunteer programs at scale.
- Proven fluency with VAN, Mobilize, Slack, and other organizing tools, plus working knowledge of peer-to-peer and mass texting (Scale to Win, ThruText, Hustle), phone banking (ThruTalk, VPB Connect), and relational organizing (Reach) platforms.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including familiarity with script writing for direct voter contact.
- Comfort building programs and systems from scratch rather than inheriting them; flexible, adaptable, and solutions-oriented.
- Ability to work within a team to achieve shared goals across a statewide program.
- Comfortable managing empathetically and from metrics, with a strong sense of self-awareness.
- Ability to thrive in a fast pace environment, work long and irregular hours including weekends and across time zones, and manage high pressure situations.
- Willingness to travel as needed; access to a reliable vehicle, laptop and cell phone required.

Salary, Benefits, and Logistics
The pay range is $5,610 per month. Applicants must live in or be willing to relocate to Michigan. This position includes a full benefits package of health, vision, and dental insurance coverage.
