Sales Engineer (Oxford) - £45-55k Basic + 25% Bonus + Car
The Opportunity
We are looking for a technically minded and commercially driven Sales Engineer to develop new business, grow existing customer relationships and provide technical solutions across an established regional territory. This is a customer-facing role combining technical expertise, consultative selling and business development.
You will work closely with customers to understand their technical and commercial requirements, identify opportunities and recommend solutions that deliver genuine value. You will manage the sales process from initial contact and opportunity development through to commercial negotiation and completion.
The role would suit a Sales Engineer, Technical Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer with a commercial focus, or an experienced B2B sales professional with a strong technical background.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Develop new business opportunities across the assigned territory.
- Identify, qualify and develop prospective customers.
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial enquiry through to successful completion.
- Grow existing customer accounts by identifying additional applications and opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a strong sales pipeline.
- Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets.
- Develop and execute territory sales plans to achieve agreed objectives.
- Build long-term relationships with customers and key decision-makers.

Technical Sales
- Understand customer applications, technical requirements and commercial objectives.
- Recommend appropriate products and solutions based on customer needs.
- Provide technical advice and support throughout the sales process.
- Explain technical products and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Work with engineering, applications and specialist teams to develop appropriate solutions where required.
- Identify opportunities to introduce new products, technologies and applications.
- Develop a strong understanding of the company's product portfolio and its applications.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop relationships with engineers, procurement teams, operations, production, supply chain and senior management.
- Act as a trusted technical and commercial contact for customers.
- Conduct regular customer visits and meetings.
- Understand customer businesses and identify opportunities for further development.
- Provide a high level of customer service before, during and after the sale.
- Maintain strong relationships across multiple stakeholders within customer organisations.
Territory Management
- Take ownership of sales performance across the assigned territory.
- Research markets, industries and potential customers to identify new opportunities.
- Monitor competitor activity and market developments.
- Prioritise opportunities according to commercial potential.
- Maximise customer coverage and productive sales activity.
- Develop strategic approaches to key accounts and target prospects.

CRM & Sales Administration
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, opportunities and sales activity.
- Keep the CRM system up to date with current pipeline and account information.
- Prepare sales forecasts and provide visibility of future opportunities.
- Maintain accurate customer and opportunity data.
- Contribute to regional and wider sales team objectives.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a candidate who combines technical understanding with strong commercial and interpersonal skills. Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience in Sales Engineering, Technical Sales, Applications Sales, Business Development or a similar customer-facing technical role.
- A proven track record of developing business and achieving sales targets.
- Strong technical aptitude and the ability to understand complex products or applications.
- Experience selling technical products, equipment, systems or solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing ability.
- A consultative approach to selling.
- The ability to understand customer problems and develop appropriate solutions.
- Commercial awareness and strong negotiation skills.
- Experience managing a territory, customer portfolio or sales pipeline.
- Good CRM and sales administration skills.
