Position: Regional Scout
Department: Football Recruitment
Contract: Part-time / Self-employed
Remuneration: Fee per game attended + agreed expenses
Reports to: Head of Recruitment / Football Operations
Role Overview
Macclesfield FC is looking to expand its scouting and recruitment network through the appointment of a number of Regional Scouts.
Regional Scouts will be responsible for identifying and assessing potential players for Macclesfield FC, providing reliable intelligence on prospective targets and supporting the club's wider recruitment strategy.
This is a flexible, part-time and self-employed position suited to individuals with a strong knowledge of football within their region and a good understanding of player identification and assessment.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend live fixtures to identify and assess potential recruitment targets.
- Scout specific players at the request of the club's recruitment team.
- Proactively identify players who could improve or have the potential to progress within Macclesfield FC.
- Monitor leagues, clubs and players within an agreed geographical region.
- Produce clear and detailed scouting reports following games.
- Assess players across technical, tactical, physical and psychological characteristics.
- Provide an overall assessment of a player's current level, potential and suitability for the club.
- Carry out opposition and general match scouting where required.
- Build knowledge of emerging talent within the assigned region.
- Maintain an up-to-date database/shortlist of players of interest.
- Where appropriate, gather relevant background information including playing history, contract situation and potential availability.
- Maintain regular communication with the club's recruitment department and highlight priority players quickly.
- Attend recruitment meetings where required (virtual)
- Represent Macclesfield FC professionally and maintain confidentiality regarding all potential targets and recruitment activity.

What We're Looking For
We are looking for scouts who:
- Have a strong knowledge of football within their geographical area.
- Regularly attend matches and have a good network within the game.
- Have a strong understanding of player identification and recruitment.
- Can assess players objectively and provide evidence to support their recommendations.
- Understand the requirements of senior men's football and the standards required to represent Macclesfield FC.
- Are reliable and able to submit reports promptly following fixtures.
- Are comfortable working independently while contributing to a wider recruitment structure.
- Have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Are discreet and understand the confidential nature of football recruitment.
Previous experience within scouting, recruitment, coaching or professional/semi-professional football would be advantageous, although applications will also be considered from individuals who can demonstrate a strong knowledge of players and leagues within their region.
How the Role Will Work
Scouts will be allocated a specific geographical region and will primarily be responsible for developing detailed knowledge of players and clubs within that area.
The club may provide specific fixtures or individual players to watch, while scouts will also be encouraged to proactively identify potential targets.
Following each assignment, a structured Macclesfield FC Scout Report will be completed and submitted to the recruitment team.
Particularly strong recommendations may result in further live assessments before a player is progressed through the club's recruitment process.

Remuneration
This is a part-time, self-employed position.
Regional Scouts will receive:
- An agreed fee per game/assignment completed.
- Agreed travel expenses associated with scouting assignments.
- The opportunity to become part of Macclesfield FC's growing recruitment network.
Regional Coverage
Macclesfield FC is looking to establish a network of scouts covering key areas across the UK, enabling the club to identify players across senior, academy, professional, semi-professional and emerging talent environments.
Successful applicants will be allocated a region based on their location, existing football knowledge and network.
The Objective
The purpose of the Regional Scout network is simple:
Identify players before everyone else does.
We want our scouts to develop detailed knowledge of their region, recognise players capable of improving Macclesfield FC and provide the recruitment department with consistent, high-quality information that supports better recruitment decisions.
