Regional Technical Manager - Northern Region

As the Regional Technical Manager for the Northern Region at MSC Industrial Supply, you will work alongside the Regional Technical Manager (South) to lead the Applications Engineers and Technical Sales teams. Your primary focus will be on developing and guiding these teams to deliver engineering solutions and provide exceptional technical support to our customers, driving growth across our key accounts and regional areas in the metalworking sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:

  • Oversee your team of Applications Engineers to fulfil contractual commitments to our key and national customers. Guiding them on comprehensive turnkey engineering solutions.
  • Build and lead your regional Technical Sales Team to address technical enquiries, conduct cutting tool trials, and achieve metalworking growth targets.
  • Foster a high-performance culture by setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and encouraging continuous improvement.

Customer Support and Development:

  • Ensure the team effectively communicates MSC’s vision and value proposition to customers.
  • Support our largest customers by managing activity pipelines, ensuring contractual commitments are met, and building strong relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Assist engineers in managing their account portfolios, providing guidance and support to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Support engineers to scope new opportunities and maintain a healthy pipeline of projects and cost-saving targets.

Talent Development:

  • Recruit, train, and develop top talent within the Applications Engineering and Technical Sales Teams.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, ownership, and accountability within the teams.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities to ensure team members reach their full potential.

Supplier Relationships:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers to secure advantages and deliver cost savings to our customers.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to stay informed about the latest products and technologies, ensuring MSC remains competitive.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments, including Territory Sales, Business Development, Marketing, and Product Management, to provide comprehensive customer support.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a technical management role, ideally within the industrial supply or metalworking sector.
  • Technical expertise in CNC engineering, manufacturing processes, and cutting tools.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on achieving business objectives.
