The Sewer Maintenance Worker inspects, cleans, repairs, and maintains City sewer lines, catch basins, manholes, and related infrastructure using specialized equipment; responds to utility-locate requests, interprets sewer maps, and performs restaurant FOG (fats, oils, and grease) inspections. The Sewer Maintenance Worker also maintains flood-control systems, waterways, drainage areas, and vegetation while safely operating heavy equipment and providing operational support at the Regional Water Reclamation Facility and pump stations throughout the City.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Valid Driver’s License
- Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement (Can be obtained after hire)
- Knowledge of safe work practices and proficiency in heavy equipment operations.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds regularly, stand for long hours, climb ladders or stairs, work in outdoor conditions, including extreme weather, and the ability to wear required PPE and respiratory protection when necessary.

Day shift with rotating weekend and holiday on-call coverage as assigned to ensure continuous facility operation. Overtime may be required to maintain operations.
Salary Generous benefit package including paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS) contributions, and group health/dental/life insurance. Vision insurance, long-term disability insurance, and flexible health/dependent care spending plan contributions can be purchased through payroll deduct. Hourly salary rates are between $24.59 and $31.62. Salary dependent on qualifications at the time of hire.
