Waverley Borough Council - Registered Building Inspector
Waverley Borough Council is looking for a committed and professionally competent Registered Building Inspector to join our Building Control team. You will help protect the health, safety, sustainability, energy conservation, and accessibility of people in and around buildings across the borough, undertaking all aspects of the Building Control function on behalf of the council.
In this role, you will:
- Examine plans
- Carry out site inspections
- Maintain accurate records
- Attend dangerous structure call outs during working hours
- Ensure compliance with the Building Regulations on site
You will work closely with residents, contractors, architects, and partner agencies, offering a professional, solution-focused service while upholding the Building Safety Regulator’s Operational Standards Rules and Code of Conduct.
Key Requirements
- Hold at least Class 2A BSR registration
- Experience in a similar Building Control role
- Strong technical knowledge
- Confident communication skills
- Ability to manage your own workload
- Full driving licence
- Access to a roadworthy vehicle for inspections
- Ability to work at height and in confined spaces
Role Details
This is a flexible role combining office, home, and site-based working within a supportive team that processes around 1,500 applications and 5,500 inspections each year. You will contribute to service development, build strong customer relationships, and support the continued growth of Waverley’s Building Control service.

Local Government Reform (LGR)
From April 2027, Guildford Borough Council and Waverley Borough Council will become part of the new West Surrey unitary council, following the government’s confirmed plans for local government reorganisation across Surrey. This change will see the current twelve councils replaced by two new authorities, East Surrey and West Surrey, with West Surrey taking responsibility for the areas currently served by Guildford, Waverley, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, and Woking.
