Registered General Manager | Premium Elderly Care Home
Salisbury, Wiltshire
Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 per annum + £10,000 Bonus Scheme
Are you an experienced care home leader with a strong commercial mindset?
Do you have a proven track record of managing private-pay care homes, driving occupancy and financial performance whilst maintaining excellent care and compliance?
Are you looking for a highly autonomous General Manager role where you can genuinely influence the direction and success of a premium care home?
Then this could be an excellent opportunity for you.
We are working with a highly regarded care provider seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a medium sized, premium residential care home in Salisbury.
This is a well-established and high-performing home operating within the premium private-pay market. The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the home's operational, commercial and people performance, with a particular focus on occupancy, financial management, customer experience, team engagement and quality compliance.
The Role
This is a senior General Manager position with significant autonomy and accountability. You will have full responsibility for the home's financial performance and will work closely with a dedicated Care Manager who provides strong oversight of care quality and KPIs.
You will be expected to take a proactive approach to identifying opportunities, developing solutions and driving the home forward rather than simply managing day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall operational and commercial responsibility for a medium sized, premium residential care home.
- Drive occupancy, enquiries, conversions and private-pay admissions, building the home's profile within the local community.
- Manage the home's full financial accounts, budgets and staffing expenditure, ensuring strong financial performance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with prospective residents, families, local advocates and community stakeholders.
- Lead and engage the management and wider staff team, with a particular focus on retention, wellbeing and reducing staff turnover.
- Maintain strong oversight of CQC compliance, governance and quality, working closely with the Care Manager.
- Lead investigations, disciplinary processes and other people-management matters where required.
- Ensure the home consistently delivers an exceptional customer experience for residents and their families.
- Identify opportunities to improve the home's commercial performance and bring new ideas to the senior management team.
- Oversee the ongoing refurbishment and investment programme within the home, ensuring the environment continues to meet the expectations of the premium private-pay market.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
