Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Sheffield | Full-time | Permanent | On-site
Build a home you can be proud to lead.
Alderwing Care is looking for an exceptional children's residential leader to become the Registered Manager of our developing home in Sheffield.
This is not simply an opportunity to inherit an existing service and maintain what is already there. It is an opportunity to help shape a children's home from the beginning — its culture, team, standards and approach to care — and build something you can genuinely be proud to lead.
We are looking for a manager who combines warmth and ambition for children with strong safeguarding judgement, professional curiosity and confident leadership.
You will work directly with the provider and Responsible Individual, with meaningful influence over the development of the home and the team around you.
If you are an experienced Registered Manager — or an exceptional Deputy Manager genuinely ready to take the next step — and want to help build a high-quality home rather than simply manage one, we would like to hear from you.
About Alderwing Care
Alderwing Care is a developing children's residential care provider built around a simple belief: Every child deserves somewhere they feel safe, understood, valued and able to grow.
We want our homes to feel like homes first — places where children experience stability, belonging, consistent relationships and adults they can trust.
Our approach is centred on child-focused and individually tailored care, meaningful participation by children and young people, understanding behaviour in the context of each child's experiences, reflective practice, strong safeguarding and positive partnership working with families and professionals.
We believe excellent outcomes for children also depend on excellent leadership.
That means supporting our Registered Manager properly, listening to professional judgement and giving the manager genuine influence over the home they are responsible for leading.
As Alderwing develops, our focus will remain on creating high-quality, well-led and nurturing homes rather than growth for growth's sake.
The Opportunity
As Registered Manager, you will lead the development and day-to-day operation of the home and establish a culture where:
- Children feel safe, listened to and valued;
- Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility;
- Staff understand the purpose behind their practice;
- Expectations are high but relationships remain nurturing;
- Decisions are thoughtful, evidence-informed and child-centred; and
- Learning and improvement are part of everyday practice.
Because this is a developing service, you will have the opportunity to contribute to areas that established-home managers often inherit, including the development of the team, working practices, culture and operational standards.
You will work closely with the provider and Responsible Individual through the home's development and registration journey and into operation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
