Job Overview
Oak Tree Ward in Hillingdon, part of CNWL, is looking for compassionate and enthusiastic Band 5 RMN to work on our Older Adults Mental Health In-patient ward based at The Woodland Centre. We can boast excellent learning opportunities and further development both in physical and mental health conditions.
We were also shortlisted for the 'coveted Nursing Times Team of the Year award in 2021'.
We care for older persons with enduring mental health conditions, long-term physical health conditions. Our dynamic MDT comprises of Medical Doctor; Nurses; OT's; Psychologies; Wellbeing support officers and collaboration with outside Agencies. This provides optimum opportunities for both newly qualified and experienced RMN's with an interest in older adult mental health services.
Main Duties of the Job
Our Band 5 nurses work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and play an important role in contributing to how people experience our services. Band 5 nurses are expected to be kind and compassionate; but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
- Keeping the people who use our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills, effective risk assessments and care planning.
- Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures, and completing clinical audits.
- Ensuring that the people using our services have a valuable experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people and their families during the recovery process.
We believe that the best health care is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working well together and in partnership with other teams and services to provide seamless care.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
As a Band 5 RMN on our ward, you would need to have excellent risk assessment and care planning abilities.
- The ability to work as part of a team with (MDT) Drs, Manager, Pharmacy, OTs, Physio, Psychologists, and healthcare support workers to provide Multi-disciplinary care plans and maintain service user safety.
- Work as an advocate for our service users, speaking up for their care, offering dignity and respect, also encouraging our service users to be a part of decision-making and maintain independence.
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to use IT skills. As our medication administration regime is now via computer software, and also service user documentation is computerized.
- Stay up-to-date on mandatory trainings and revalidation.
- Safeguarding knowledge.
- Be willing to work as part of the team on quality improvement projects.

The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses and all nurses, including Band 5 nurses, are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse Mental Health.
- Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development.
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- You need previous experience of working in the mental health services either as a band 5 nurse, a student nurse, or a health care assistant.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working as a RMN in Older Adults Mental Health and/or a Mental Health clinical setting.
