Job Overview
Are you a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse looking to develop your specialist nursing skills? Our newly developed rotational post offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience across two areas of our Vascular Surgery service.
You will spend six months working on our 36-bed vascular ward, before rotating for a further six months into our Rapid Access Service based in Outpatients. This unique structure will give you the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of vascular nursing and experience different aspects of the patient pathway.
We are particularly keen to hear from nurses with an interest in vascular patients, a passion for wound care and a desire to develop specialist knowledge and skills. Previous vascular experience is desirable but not essential, as you will be supported by our friendly, experienced and motivated team.
Whether you are looking to build on existing experience or take your first steps towards a career in vascular nursing, this role offers excellent opportunities for learning, development and progression within a specialist service.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse within our Vascular Surgery service, you will play an important role in providing safe, effective and compassionate care to patients throughout their vascular journey.
You Will
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care, working collaboratively with patients, families and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised care, taking responsibility for planned patient care and working independently within your scope of practice.
- Develop your knowledge and skills in vascular nursing, including wound care and vascular assessment and investigations.
- Provide patients and their families with appropriate education, advice and support, promoting health and wellbeing and helping patients to manage their condition.
- Contribute to effective discharge planning, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to support safe transitions of care.
- Support and supervise Healthcare Support Workers, students and other colleagues as appropriate.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, welcoming and therapeutic environment for patients, relatives, visitors and colleagues.
- Treat every patient with dignity, compassion and respect, recognising and responding to their individual needs while maintaining confidentiality.
- Work in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards and evidence-based practice.

Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse with current NMC licence to practice
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Study at degree level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of wound assessment with good knowledge of dressings
- Expectation to undertake training for extended roles required by the department, for example: venepuncture, cannulation, ABPI training, TCPO2 training, compression bandaging, wound care.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Essential criteria
- Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping
- Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to organise own workload, with good time management and problem solving skills
- Basic computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service
