Job Title: Clinical Reviewer
Salary: £36,000 per annum based on full-time equivalent
Location: Homebased
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full Time or Part Time, 22.5 - 37.5 hours per week between Monday to Friday (8-4/9-5/0830-1630)
Right to live and work in the UK without any restrictions is required for this role.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo BPSS security clearance.
We will be hiring multiple candidates for this position with start dates on the 15th January, 20th February, and 31st March 2027. The recruitment process for this role will be ongoing.
Role Summary
The Clinical Review team plays an important role in supporting candidates through the recruitment process. The team will review Online Medical Questionnaires, Primary Healthcare Records, Family Origins Questionnaires, and other relevant medical information to help establish whether a candidate has any medical conditions or issues that may prevent them from joining the Armed Forces.
As part of the role, there will also be an element of telephone cold calling and proactive contact with candidates. Where further information or clarification is needed, the team will speak with candidates by telephone or video consultation to understand their medical history and any conditions they have declared.
Using this information, the team will assess medical fitness against the medical standards of entry set by the Authority and determine whether the candidate can continue with the Armed Forces recruitment process.
The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail and be able to carefully review and interpret a range of medical information. They will also have strong communication skills, a professional and approachable manner, and the ability to handle sensitive information with care and confidentiality.
It's a varied and rewarding role that combines clinical review, communication, and careful consideration of individual circumstances, helping to ensure candidates receive a fair and thorough assessment throughout their recruitment journey.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
- To review medical records against entry standards.
- To undertake remote telephone or video consultations.
- To work remotely or from a clinic.
- To take responsibility for the work basket to undertake assessments and reviews.
- To ensure that you keep up to date with any changes in Armed Forces medical standards for entry.
- To be able to work autonomously and to be a decision maker.
- To maintain professional practice and revalidation.
- Work as part of the wider Clinical Review team.
- To ensure the maintenance of medical records in line with Optima Health Medical Assessment policy.
- Participate in clinical audit.
- Participate in clinical supervision.
- Effectively record data in the medical records.
- Maintain statistical information for MI purposes.
- Work within the clinical policies and procedures.
- Some travel may be required for meetings and training.
- Conduct other ad hoc tasks commensurate with level of responsibility as requested.

Experience, Skills, And Knowledge Required For The Role
- Registered General Nurse registered with NMC or Health Professional Registered with HCPC.
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience as a registered nurse.
- IT Literate, experience of working with Word, Excel, Outlook, and a medical software system.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to undertake remote clinical assessments.
- Robust clinical record keeping.
- Knowledge of data protection requirements.
- Reconciling Information: Ability to cross-reference different parts of the record (e.g., hospital discharge letters, lab results, GP notes) to ensure a complete picture.
- Ability to summarize findings, actions, and recommendations clearly for other clinicians or for audit purposes.
