Staff Nurse – Preoperative Assessment
Location: KIMS Hospital, Maidstone
Contract: 22.5 Hours per week, 08.00 – 18.00 between Monday and Friday (Saturday working as per service requirements)
Salary: £17,100 – £19,125 (Equivalent to a full-time salary of (£30,400 – £34,000)

KIMS Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated registered nurse to join our Preoperative Assessment team as a Staff Nurse. You will be a key member of our multi-disciplinary Preoperative Assessment team and will be responsible for the holistic assessment of all patients undergoing surgery at KIMS Hospital to ensure excellent patient care.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced registered nurse who is passionate about the preoperative assessment service and understands its value in elective surgery pathways.
Role Responsibilities
A preoperative assessment staff nurse will:
- Always demonstrate good clinical practice and be accountable for own actions, acting within the NMC code of practice.
- Perform ECG’s and phlebotomy along with monitoring blood pressures, weight and height to assess patients, to determine they are fit for their procedure prior to admission.
- Ensure the anaesthetic pre-assessment processes which may require the involvement of a consultant anaesthetist or RMO are robust and well documented on the digital preoperative assessment system (Lifebox).
- Assist patients with the completion of their medical history on Lifebox where necessary.
- Champion infection prevention and control in your daily work.

Person Specification
Essential
- Be a qualified Nurse with current NMC PIN.
- Previous experience in being involved in or running pre-operative assessment clinics.
- Knowledge of clinical governance and its application.
Desirable
- Post Graduate course in the relevant speciality.
- Experience of using electronic pre-assessment systems.
